Sunspot images

Here are some amazing high-resolution photos of the sun, taken 1-31-08. You can almost see the 3 dimensional shape of the sun in these photos.
I was lucky enough in high school to be able to view the sun with my naked eye using a home-made high power telescope and UV filter over a period of 3 months. Its amazing how much the surface of the sun changes day to day.
Click the images for the high-rez links.
It kind of reminds me of something out of the movie Sunshine.

gOS (linux distribution)
I've been playing with a new linux distribution, called gOS. It is based on Ubuntu, and shows a lot of potential. It is more of an entry-level operating system, meant for grandmas and students who dont want to have to worry too much about cost or the complexitys of the modern operating system. It uses the E17 interface, as apposed to gnome or kde, as most modern linux-based operating systems do.
You can download it here.
Here is a full review.
This is also the same operating system walmart made headlines with by coming pre-installed on their budget $199 PCs

Helpful misc Electronics references
Ever need a quick way of determining the resistance value of a resistor? This online tool provides a quick way of determining the value of that resistor. Also, for example, have you needed to know what gauge wire to use for a 10 foot long, 12v line at 15A? This chart is helpful for just that. There is another useful table at Wikipedia as well.
